Pronto, or Smart Plates, give the look of stone lithographic prints but without the grinding and etching. Draw images directly on the printing plate with any waterproof material or transfer photocopies for image-making. Learn how to make a one color and multiple color images. This is a really easy way to learn the lithographic process! No prerequisites.

What will you learn in this workshop?
1. Understand the properties lithographic printing.
2. Learn to prepare a pronto plate and to draw, paint and transfer an image onto a plate.
3. Learn to prepare paper, set-up an inking slab, mix ink and set press pressure for printing.
4. Learn the nuances of printing one or multi-run prints and how to make corrections on a plate while printing.
5. Learn to critically look at your work in-order to improve your ability to communicate an idea through the printmaking process.

  • Many of these items are available for purchase in Fleisher's supply store. Students presenting a valid Fleisher membership card receive a 10% discount on their purchases.

  • In the second week you will need printmaking paper. Types will be discussed the first week of class.
