This class will introduce you to basic theories, principals, and techniques to successfully draw the figure. We will concentrate on improving your eye and knowledge through handouts, note taking, demonstrations, and lots of drawing from a live model. There will be one-on-one critique, group discussions and dialogue to help improve your drawing skills.

Topics include: gesture drawings, long drawing, drawing from multiple view points, composing multiple figures on the page, discussing methods and materials, etc. The class skills will prepare you for many of the other classes at Fleisher such as painting, printmaking, sculpture, and collage.

  • You are free to use any drawing materials you choose. The supply list is composed of suggested materials that reflect the instructor’s demonstrated techniques.

  • For the first day of class have these items:
  • • A sketchbook
  • • Pencil
  • • Kneaded rubber eraser
  • Midway through the semester you will need these supplies:
  • • Soft vine charcoal
  • • Charcoal paper pad
  • • Toned charcoal paper
  • • White chalk, or conte crayon
  • • Pastels
