Wheatpasting is an inexpensive and popular medium widely used by street artists. Come learn about the origins of the process, the techniques involved, and get a chance to design and install a collaborative wheatpaste mural at the Queen Street Tunnel in South Philadelphia. The class will start off with a crash course in line drawing, collage, and copier enlargement techniques. You will learn to combine hand-drawn and photographic images, practice your large scale drawing and painting skills, and translate ideas into mural design meant for public display.
What will you learn in this workshop?
1. Designing collaboratively for large scale mural compositions
2. Mixing and applying wheat paste
3. Mixing media and working with pastel, paint, ink, pencils and photographs
4. Making mosaic enlargements using a copy machine
