In this course, you will learn to draw in space three-dimensionally. Since the dawn of our consciousness, we have been fascinated with our own human form. The figure has been used by every culture to express a limitless variety of subject matter and concept in art.
You will learn to anchor the figure to the core elements of balance, rhythm weight, and proportion. Some experience with drawing from the figure is helpful but not mandatory.
What will you learn in this workshop?
The emphasis is on gesture, proportion and the sculptural impact of a form in space. Anatomical landmarks and different canons of proportion will be covered, as will sight measuring. You will work quickly the first two weeks, with a focus on mass and rhythm, then move on to a long pose with more in-depth study of anatomy and resolution of form. The work of different sculptors, who use the figure as a means of expression, will be introduced and help develop an individual, informed approach.
