Building on the concepts introduced in Basic Drawing (should be taken first) this class focuses on intermediate and advanced concepts in observational drawing. The course will address the most common mistakes made by drawing students. Using life models, landscape and still life, students will learn to judge proportion, handle complicated subjects, and exploit the full range of mark making that is possible with a single media.

What will you learn in this workshop?
1. Recognize large & small movements in contours (large gestures vs. small dips/swells)
2. Render irregular spherical forms
3. Judge proportion
4. Handle complicated subjects and correctly place groups of objects
5. Use the complete range of marks from one media

  • • 18 x 24 inches Strathmore Premium Recycled Drawing Pad or similar white pad *
  • • Graphite Drawing Pencils: 2B, 3B, 4B *
  • • Regular #2 Dixon Ticonderoga PENCILS with pink erasers *(available at Staples)
  • • White Drafting Eraser (Staedtler Mars) *
  • • Compressed Charcoal – soft or medium *
  • • Blending Stumps (optional) *
