Enjoy your evening hours in a creative studio environment devoted to learning, discussion and much painting. Do you have painting experience already? Then bring your supplies and be ready to paint. Never painted before, but want to learn? At the first class you’ll learn what materials you’ll need and you’ll be guided on how to plan your painted image. Subject matter will be mostly still life, but artists wishing to work from photos, abstractly, or from their imaginations are welcome.


What will you learn in this workshop?
• Improvement in awareness of formal qualities and how to handle them.
• Discovering the intention of distortions.
• Learning when to stop.
• Learning how and why to push older work further.
• Growing awareness and acceptance of student’s own way of seeing.

  • For the student looking for a low-cost, and easy set of paints, John suggests any one of the following systems of painting:
  • Acrylic painters will need:
  • • A container for water *
  • • Disposable palette *
  • • A palette knife *
  • • A roll of paper towels
  • • Either Canvas, Canvas Board, or Canvas Paper *
  • • Brushes: #10 or #12 flat bristle, #8 flat bristle, #4 round bristle, and a nylon bristle round *
  • • Suggested Color palette: Cadmium Yellow Pale Hue, Cadmium Red Hue, Cobalt Blue Hue, Permanent Green Deep, Ivory Black, Titanium White, Ultramarine, Yellow Ochre; *
  • Oil Painters will need:
  • • A metal palette cup (double) *
  • • Turpenoid *
  • • Linseed oil *
  • • Either Canvas, Canvas Board, or Canvas Paper *
  • • Disposable palette *
  • • A palette knife *
  • • A roll of paper towels
  • • Brushes: #10 or #12 flat bristle, #8 flat bristle, #4 round bristle, and a nylon bristle round *
  • • Suggested Color palette: Burnt Sienna, Burnt Umber, Cadmium Red Hue, Cadmium Yellow Hue, Cobalt Blue Hue, French Ultramarine, Ivory Black, Permanent Green Light, Titanium White, Viridian Hue, Yellow Ochre *
