Machine Sewing: Witch & Wizard Hats

In this fun 2-session workshop participants will create their own custom witch or wizard hat on the sewing machine, just in time for Halloween! Along the way students will build foundational garment-sewing skills such as following a pattern, sewing seams, and stitching curved shapes. Perfect for adventurous beginners and anyone looking for a creative new machine sewing project.
Participants should have taken Machine Sewing at Fleisher, or have some machine sewing experience. Please contact adulteducation@fleisher.org with questions.
What You Will Learn:
- How to follow and assemble a sewing pattern
- Sewing curved seams and structured shapes
- Basic sewing techniques used in garment construction
- How to attach bias tape
- How to attach fusible interfacing to create shape and stability
- How to trip clip and turn curved edges
- Recommended fabric is non stretch medium weight woven fabric, such as: quilting cotton, cotton canvas, twill, linen, or wool.
- ½ yard of 60 inch wide fabric (non-stretch medium weight)
- Spool of thread
- ½ yard of 60 inch wide iron on interfacing
- 1 ½ yard of double fold 1/2 in bias tape (will go around the perimeter of the hat)
- 1 ½ yard of 12 gauge aluminum wire
- 1 crimp connector for 12 gauge wire (optional)
- Embellishments such as ribbon, plastic spiders, netting, feathers, twine, foliage, faux flowers, etc. of your choosing
