008 An Analysis of the Rhetoric of Abraham Lincoln's Path to Emancipation

The class will analyze the rhetoric of Abraham Lincoln on freedom, slavery, and emancipation. It will do so by examining various letters and speeches made by Lincoln throughout his career, culminating with his Second Inaugural. The first class will deal with Lincoln’s political career in Illinois, while the second class will focus on his presidential rhetoric.
