015 Attitudes toward Immigration and Immigrants in America, 1790-1945

The class will examine the attitudes toward various immigrant groups throughout American history including the French, Germans, Irish, Chinese, Eastern Europeans and Japanese. It will examine various political movements which sought to limit immigration and answer the question: How did a nation of immigrants so often develop anti-immigrant attitudes?
