Our journey begins in Egypt in 2750 BC where glass was invented 4000 years ago, takes us through the Middle Ages when the first stained-glass windows were created, and into the studios of today’s stained-glass artists. Along the way, we’ll look at windows created by Tiffany & Co., Frank Lloyd Wright and Charles Mackintosh. Stained glass is one of the art world’s most unchanged crafts-still using the same techniques as it did centuries ago. It is a craft that requires not only an understanding of color and design, but craftspeople must also possess mechanical aptitude and have a rudimentary understanding of metallurgy and engineering.
