Students will learn the basics of wet felting, a centuries old craft that turns un-spun wool into a sturdy fabric. Start with wool roving (loose carded wool) and a base of “prefelt” wool (wool that has been lightly felted but is not yet a fabric), add some soapy water and agitation and FELT happens! We will lay out up to 2 cuffs which are enhanced with silk fabric/ roving and contrast wool bits. A variety of post-felting embellishment techniques using embroidery and beads will be discussed. However, the embellishment work will be done at home because the cuffs need to dry. Three different closures and an optional backing (for those sensitive to wool) will also be discussed. All felting materials will be supplied. Kit fee is $10.00. Students will supply: an old towel to contain excess water during the felting process; a small bowl/ yogurt container to hold soapy water; scissors for cutting fabric. Please wear old clothes or bring an apron.
