077 Jacksonport History Through Erskine Family Stories

In-Person | Registration opens 8/6/2025 9:00 AM CDT

This story of Jacksonport highlights the families who survived harsh conditions to settle here in the 1800s when it was a wilderness. It became a thriving lumber and fish town but declined when the lumbering boom ended. When the Great Depression hit, Jacksonport transformed into a quiet place for families to spend their vacations. The Erskine family stories and Jacksonport history after 1920 were recorded by Marilyn’s grandfather, Fred Erskine, using a camera he built when he was 20 from parts he ordered from Sears and Roebuck. Fred developed the glass slides in his darkroom. Through remembering, I honor the legacy handed to us by the early settlers-integrity, perseverance, and working together.
