048 Dye and Shake it Out
In-Person | Registration opens 8/6/2025 9:00 AM CDT
This class is a joint project between DCLIR and Door County Master Gardener’s Herb & Dye plot at The Garden Door (Peninsular Agricultural Research Station). The class will be held at The Garden Door (TGD) on two Saturdays. Participants may bring dyestuffs, but the bulk will be provided by the Dye team at the Herb & Dye plot where they’ve been growing dye plants to support this activity (barring pests and rabbits). Please bring two plastic containers with lids (such as peanut butter jars) and save red and yellow onion skins. A list of seasonal dye materials will be sent but time will be short to gather them. Natural dyes are subtle and complimentary to skin tones, so if you’re looking for “love that red” you will not find it with natural dyes. The class fee includes two silk scarves. You will dye both and take one home and leave one to “marinate” around Herb & Dye at TGD. The Shake Out is a public event (two weeks later) where the scarves emerge from their colorful marinades and are shaken out and hung to dry and show their colors. The scarves will be for sale at the Master Gardener’s Spring 2026 Plant Sale, Memorial Day weekend. Thank you for contributing. Grubby clothes and a sharing attitude are essential, gloves optional. Bring your own beverage and enjoy the garden. 7 DCLIR members and 7 DCMGA members.
