Join Paige Witek with the Door County Land Trust to discover the beautiful natural communities of Heins Creek Nature Preserve in Baileys Harbor. We will travel approximately 0.75 miles along the trail to move through a variety of habitats that are vital to the area’s wildlife and ecological integrity. Traverse over ancient sand dunes, through hemlock and maple dominated forests, and along the tranquil Heins Creek. Learn the natural history of the landscape and why this area’s protection is so important. The trail difficulty is easy-to-moderate. It is fairly level with a few areas of slight incline. It includes surfaces that contain tree roots and sand. Hiking boots or sturdy, closed-toed shoes are recommended.
