071 Nasty Men of Opera: Tosca's Scarpia
In-Person | Registration opens 1/8/2025 9:00 AM CST
The mere mention of opera conjures up visions of soprano sounds emanating from colorfully clad divas piercing the air. For the non-lovers of the genre, this can be challenging to the ear and overall patience of the listener.
But there are other characters that have graced the stage of many an opera over the last hundred years or more. These are the men with powerful baritone or bass voices that aren’t so lovable.
This program by MUSE, the new music education and performance venue in downtown Sturgeon Bay, presents a glimpse of the sometimes more angry male component of the opera company.
Watching DVD sequences from performances spanning from 1953 to the present day, class participants will experience and then compare and contrast a variety of theatrical approaches to this mean dude, cast first as a noble baron, and in later modern renditions as a chief of police.
Discussion and refreshments will conclude the sessions.
