058 Jacksonport History Through Erskine Family Stories
In-Person | Registration opens 1/8/2025 9:00 AM CST
This presentation is about gratitude for all the people who came before us and settled in this area, which was a wilderness in the 1800s. I begin with my grandparents, Fred and Gertrude Erskine, because their family story is woven into early Jacksonport history and recorded by my grandfather’s photographs. I continue with a review of what was happening in the United States at the time and how it affected their lives. The ongoing family stories take you through the growth of a thriving lumber and fishing town, the decline when the lumbering boom ended, the Great Depression, and the transformation of Jacksonport into a quiet place for families to spend their vacations. Through remembering, I honor the legacy handed to us by the early settlers – integrity, wisdom, compassion, and working together.
