045 Fred Erskine, WWI Veteran and Jacksonport's Photographer
In-Person | Registration opens 1/8/2025 9:00 AM CST
Marilyn’s grandfather, Fred Erskine, lived his entire life, 96 years, as a resident of Jacksonport. At age 20, he built a camera and began to photograph life in the early 1900s in Door County. During WWI, while he was stationed in France, he took many pictures, which he developed and printed in his tent. He also photographed his time in Germany during the Army of Occupation. When Fred died, Marilyn inherited the photos. Instead of keeping them in a box, where no one would see them, she was inspired to share them by writing Fred Erskine, WWI Veteran, Honoring my Grandfather and his WWI Photographs. The book brings to life the untold stories of soldiers who sacrificed for our freedom on the battlefields of Western Europe from June 1917 to November 11, 1918. Through this PowerPoint presentation of the book, we remember their sacrifice for our freedom.
