It’s been 150 years since the Peshtigo Fire devastated the northeastern part of Wisconsin, burning 1.2 million acres. Countless counties, including Kewaunee and Door, were also affected. It was believed Kewaunee County would never rise from the ashes. But, as it was, many came to feel that Kewaunee County’s greatest tragedy was a blessing in disguise. When the fields were cleared, the ashes became fertilizer, and new homes were built better than the old. Good qualities of fellow citizens came forward, and life changed. Join local historian, Virginia Feld Johnson, for a discussion of her latest book, when the “Night Rained Fire.”
