Intro to Linocut Relief: Afternoon Class

Adult Class | This program is completed

In this class you will learn the basics of relief printmaking, one of the oldest, most versatile and affordable printmaking methods. You will learn how to design, carve, ink, register and print single color linocuts. You will also learn how to easily introduce several colors into your prints without carving additional blocks. Our last day together we will print a small finished “edition”. This class is perfect for anyone who wants to learn the technique from scratch or freshen up their skills before advancing to multi block (see continuation course) or other multi-color print techniques.

  • For beginners and those wanting a refresher class.
  • Contact Ingrid at ingridmorejohn@gmail.com with questions
  • Materials fee $15 to be paid directly to the instructor the first day of class will cover gouges, brayers, barens, (2) printing blocks (4" x 6"), ink, modifiers, registration jig, tracing paper and a suitable quantity of printing paper per person. Some students have felt that traditional linoleum is difficult to carve. Because of this we will use a soft rubbery material from Dick Blick called "Readycut". It is easy to carve and shouldn't cause problems for anyone with hand dexterity issues. You can still achieve fine detail and the plate is easy to ink and clean. We’ll use non-toxic, easy cleanup Speedball watersoluble inks.
  • If you instead wish to bring your own tools and materials to class contact Ingrid at ingridmorejohn@gmail.com for the list of supplies that will be used in class so you can duplicate them.
