Discover how to see beyond the obvious within the landscape, and use expressive color to capture the essence of mood and atmosphere. We will explored the subjects of earth, water, sky, and more. Whether you work in pastel, oil, watercolor, or acrylics, you will learn to see the depth of color and create a unique and personally expressive painting.
Skilled in all mediums, Susan is a professional plein air and studio painter, as well as a national product demonstrator, who will lead you to your personal color expression in the medium of your choice. Each day will begin with a prerecorded video and a short Zoom demo focusing on methods that will aid in color expression. The day will conclude with a brief Zoom session reviewing each artists’ experience in their studios. Instructor will also review each artists’ work and email advice. All students will receive the zoom videos from each day to download.
We will explore:
o How to set up and refine your personal working studio space
o Painting Surfaces and tools related to your medium
o The use of underpainting or color compliments to support your personal expressive color
o Color mixing for how to see and use expressive color
o “Thumbnail Sketches” and their importance in supporting strong compositions and values
o How to “Target Focus” on what inspires you in the landscape
o How to resolve an unfinished studio painting
