December 16-20 (5 days)
9:30 a.m. to 4:30p.m.

In this one week intensive workshop, students will develop the ability to understand and integrate manual, procedural, and analytical techniques of portrait from life. Working on single and multi-day drawings, students will explore human likeness dynamically through the expression of gesture, proportion, perspective and the effects of light on form.

During each of the morning sessions, Mr. Ryder will present lecture-demonstrations where he introduces essential drawing concepts and methods for their effective translation. In the afternoon sessions, students will develop portrait drawings from direct observation under Mr. Ryder's direct guidance where students will individually learn to apply drawing's underlying principles into effective working methods.
